TODAY I WENT FOR THE FIRST TIME TO A DERMATOLOGIST. IT WENT GOOD. DID ANYBODY GO TO DERMATOLOGIST . SKIN CANCER IS THE MOST COMMON TYPE OF CANCER AFTER TRANSPLANT. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO ROUTINELY CHECK YOUR SKIN FOR ANY PROBLEM AND VISIT YOUR DERMATOLOGIST AT ONCE A YEAR. SOME MEDICATIONS THAT YOU TAKE AFTERTRANSPLANT CAN ALSO MAKE YOUR SKIN MORE SENSITIVE TO THE SUN AND OTHER IRRITANTS.

So very important indeed! I have had more than 20 skin cancers over my 16 years w transplants and several in the face which cause great cosmetic damage. Thank you for bringing this to everyone’s attention.

Avoiding the sun, using protection and of course early detection by regular derm visits key.

I've typically gone once or twice a year for the past 11 years since my kidney transplant. Since scheduling at my primary dermatology clinic can sometimes be difficult, I've often gone to a secondary clinic that offers same-day appointments if I find a mark on my skin that appears overly of concern to me. I've had numerous things on my back, arms, legs, and face biopsied or frozen off. I had one instance of basal skin carcinoma which required surgery on my scalp. Thankfully, the cancer was fully removed and my scalp healed nicely. I have very pale skin and a family history of skin cancer so I have to remain extra vigilant.

I worked for a facial plastic surgeon and skin care specialists for many years as one of my first jobs. I am diligent about sunscreen. So much so that people lovingly refer to me as the "sunscreen enforcer". I always wear a hat, and have many sun shirts. I am also a "spotted" individual with pale skin. I have seen a dermatologist since I was little. I just go more frequent now. It's so important to have your skin checked.
