Hi folks, As a kidney patient who is waiting for a 2nd transplant, i needed to have a parathyroidectomy where they removed 3 out of 4 parathyroid glands, and that surgery was successful, but i ended up with hungry bones syndrome, meaning that my calcium is going to all my bones and not to the rest of my body equally. so ive been on a boatload of calcitrol an ox-cal for the foreseeable future. whats weird is my phosphorus which was high (running around 8-9 sometimes 10 now since surgery its down to 1.8, Has anyone had that happen before?

Good luck! I have no experience with this but hopefully someone here can support you.
Thanks so much.
Hello,
I am currently 5 months post-op. I received my kidney on Christman Eve if you can believe it :) best gift ever after being on dialysis for the past 11 years. both peritoneal and hemodialysis. Anyway, 3 months after my transplant surgery, the doctors noticed an elevated calcium level in my bloodwork that would just not go down despite putting me on 3 different meds. They decided I needed a parathyroidectomy and removed 3 out of 4 glands. After that my throat was quite sore and it hurt to move my neck too much so I was walking around with a neck pillow fastened like a dog cone it felt like! lol...thankfully that did it tho, my calcium levels went down...way down! i needed to be on calcitriol for about 1 month after and then everything normalized. As for my phosphorus, after years of it being in the 9s and 10s on dialysis, right after transplant surgery, my phos levels went down to 1.4. absolutely nuts. anyway, sorry if this doesn't help...just sharing my parathyroidectomy experience
