Appetite Mystery

I have been dealing with no appetite again. I tried Mirtazapine, but it was causing me to fall asleep without knowing it. What have you tried to improve appetite or strategies to make food more appealing? I am aggressively not hungry. Very nauseating and frustrating.

@TiaBean I am so sorry to hear this and I hope you find a solution sooner rather than later. I dealt with something similar due to ADHD medications which are also known to suppress the appetite. A few weeks after I started the medication, I was experienceing lightheadedness and nausea every day and realized it was because I had a calorie deficiency.

This is not a good or easy solution but what I did is I would kind of force myself to have even the smallest amout of food every day at least 3 times a day. Sometimes it would literally be half of a waffle or a couple pieces of fruit, or a couple sips of a yogurt. Over time my body got used to it and even though I don't really feel hunger in the morning, I am able to eat just from being used to having a meal every day at a certain time.

All we can do is try, right? I am really sorry though, it used to make me sick to try and force it. I hope it works for you. I always told myself, even if I do 2-3 bites, its better than nothing. It was a very long process to get to where I am now and able to eat normally. Hang in there Tia

Thank you @Dom. My nutrionist suggested tiny meals instead of the honking big three meals. This makes sense. I can do that. Atleast try.

@BabyJ25 I have been open with my doctors about this. I actually am getting blood work done monthly instead of biweekly. Things are improving, but food is just hard for me right now.

As someone who learned to eat for the first time in my twenties, and has never felt hunger a day in my life, I’m a pro at this 😂

play with your food as much as possible. I find touching food, making it, eating with my fingers… all help. Also eat while watching the food network! There’s something about eating while watching other people eat/cook that helps me (plus I’m somewhat zoned out so I’m less focused on what I’m putting into my mouth. Mindless eating for the win) as much as you can, drink your calories. I love nutrient loading drinks and smoothies. Also sauces, dips, anything you can tolerate to try and sneak in more other foods. I’m a really strong flavour person, so anything really spicy or sour is easier to get down. I always tell myself anything is better than nothing.

i’ve learned so many hacks over the years so feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
